‘He’s having a perfect Euro 2024’ - France coach hails Kounde
The defender has impressed for Les Bleus
Jules Kounde has been in impressive form for France at Euro 2024 and has come in for some deserved praise ahead of the team’s quarter-final tie with Portugal.
Guy Stephan, assistant coach to Didier Deschamps, took over press conference duties on Wednesday and spoke about the Barcelona defender.
The 25-year-old is playing at right-back for France at the European Championship, and Stephan says he hasn’t put a foot wrong yet.
“Koundé is great. Defensively, we saw it in his management of Doku,” he told reporters. “And offensively, he brings something extra. He is having a perfect Euro so far.”
The Barcelona star was named man of the match after the team’s last 16 win over Belgium after a brilliant showing up against Manchester City star Jeremy Doku.
He also used his post-match interview to encourage people to vote in the general elections in France and expressed his disappointment at seeing a first-round victory for the far right.
