The young striker insists it wasn’t a contract dispute

Less than a year ago Marc Guiu became a Barcelona sensation by scoring a game-winning goal with his first touch as a first team player less than a minute into his debut, and while he didn’t play many minutes last season the youngster remained a fan-favorite and looked set for an important role under new manager Hansi Flick as Robert Lewandowski’s backup.

Then almost out of nowhere came the news that he was leaving to join Chelsea, a move which earned Barça €6 million but left a lot more questions than answers. Soon came reports about a contract dispute, and that Guiu was unhappy with his salary and decided to join Chelsea to get a big raise in his wages.

Those reports didn’t leave Barça fans too happy, but Guiu insists that his decision to join Chelsea was not related to money but to simply realize a childhood dream of playing in England.

‘It was a tough decision (to leave Barcelona) but I always wanted to play in the Premier League and this was an amazing opportunity, so I had to go for it.

‘It was not an issue with my contract. I’ve always dreamt of playing in the Premier League and Chelsea is a great club with a lot of history.
