Kimmich refused to rule out signing for Barcelona, but the Catalans may no longer be interested

FC Barcelona’s interest in signing Joshua Kimmich from FC Bayern Munich has reportedly cooled down, despite the player himself making a public comment that some took as a hint that he was interested in the move.

When asked about the possibility of signing for Barcelona, Kimmich said that “in football, you can never rule things out.”

While he was clear he was not currently thinking about the move, his refusal to rule it out was taken by some as a wink towards Barça, who have pursued his signing for a while now.

Previous manager Xavi - whom Kimmich regards as his idol - was said to have desperately wanted Kimmich, and current boss Hansi Flick is a fan of the player as well.

But when it comes to the number crunchers, they’re less thrilled. The newest rumors say that Barça don’t want to spend the money it would take to pry him away from the Bavarians, and would rather bet on academy players developing.

Bayern, for their part, do not want to let Kimmich go, but his salary demands for a new contract are a bit higher than what they want to pay.
