Ter Stegen undergoing stem cell treatment to speed up injury recovery
The stopper hopes to return before the end of the season
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is reportedly undergoing stem cell treatment in a bid to return from his knee injury ahead of schedule.
The stopper went under the knife in September and is expected to be out for the majority of the season due to the injury.
However, Diario Sport are reporting that Ter Stegen is undergoing “novel” treatment led by pioneering expert Dr. Robert Soler.
The treatment is said to have a “total guarantee” of success and basically regenerates the ruptured tendons.
Ter Stegen’s treatment process allows him to begin his rehab with “load and endurance work earlier than expected” which potentially shortens his recovery time.
Barcelona’s goalkeeper started his recovery at the club last month, and the report claims he’s hoping to possibly return at the end of April.
It still remains to be seen if he will be able to make his comback this season, but his future at the club seems secure, with Deco confirming the club have no plans to sign a replacement.
