The defender is being linked with a move away

Barcelona received a major boost to their defense last week when Andreas Christensen was finally medically cleared to return after missing over five months with persistent Achilles issues that have plagued him for the better part of two years.

The Dane is by all accounts fully healthy now, but he still hasn’t played for Barça and that was enough to create rumors that Christensen could be leaving Barça either before the end of this month or in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It seems those rumors don’t really have a lot of substance, but coach Hansi Flick was asked about them anyway in a press conference on Saturday and made it clear he is planning to use Christensen as soon as he’s fully fit to play.

“I speak with Andreas, who came from a long injury, he is back and is training well. Some players are in front of him, but we know his quality and when he’s 100 percent we’ll see what happens.”

There is a ton of competition at center-back with the emergence of Iñigo Martínez this season and the return of Ronald Araujo, but Christensen has proved in the past he’s more than good enough to get his own spot in the team.

Flick has a good selection headache when he’s healthy, and the more good options to choose, the better. Let’s not sell good options, please.
