Another renewal ticked off

Barcelona left-back Gerard Martin has signed a new long-term contract at the club.

The 22-year-old has made 18 appearances this season in all competitions for Hansi Flick’s side as back-up to Alejandro Balde.

Martin hasn’t completely convinced in the first team but appears to have done enough to be handed an extension by the Catalan giants.

The youngster has signed on until 2028 and the deals is believed to include a €100m release clause.

Here’s Barca’s official statement:

“FC Barcelona and player Gerard Martín have reached an agreement to renew his contract, which will tie him to the Club until June 30, 2028.

“The Barça defender signed his new contract this Thursday at noon in an event with the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta; the director responsible for Youth Football, Joan Soler; the Club’s sporting director, Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco”; and the director of Youth Football, José Ramon Alexanco.”

Barca have also confirmed Ronald Araujo’s contract extension this week, with Deco admitting before the Benfica game that new deals are the club’s priority at the moment rather than January transfers.
