‘I want him on my team’ - Hansi Flick responds to Araujo to Juventus rumors
The Uruguayan has been heavily linked with an exit
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick had his first opportunity to comment on the heavy speculation that Ronald Araujo could be leaving the club at any point during this winter transfer window.
The Uruguayan defender has been linked with a move to Juventus and is open to leaving according to multiple reports, and a reported text message from captain Raphinha requesting an “urgent meeting” between himself, Flick and Araujo only fueled speculation around Ronald’s future.
Flick decided to do his best to cool off the rumors, however, making it clear he’s not surprised by them but wants Araujo to stay and indicated the center-back will have more minutes now that he’s back from injury.
“When I started as a coach at Barça I saw that there were a lot of rumours. Ronald came back from a terrible injury and is now fit to play. He is a good option and he is very professional. We should not talk about rumours. I want to have him on my team. I don’t want to think about the future. The important thing is that he is ready.”
The intrigue surrounding this particular situation has been immense, and Barça potentially losing one of their future pillars on the transfer window will always cause huge interest. Flick wants him to stay, but he hasn’t played many minutes so far and Jonathan Tah is likely arriving next summer to add even more competition for playing time.
You can see why Araujo would want to go, and why this situation is so tricky right now.
