The Man Utd forward has been linked with a move to Barça

After months of speculation and several levers pulled, Barcelona have finally returned to the infamous La Liga 1:1 salary cap rule that allows them to spend freely and bring in new signings.

The most recent reports claim the club want to bring in a backup for Robert Lewandowski before the end of this month, and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been heavily linked with a move to Catalonia. Rashford is out of Rúben Amorim’s plans and according to all accounts wants to join the Blaugrana, and is now waiting for Barça to make the move.

Hansi Flick was asked about the club’s transfer plans for January, and said he has had discussions with sporting director Deco about potential moves but is very happy with the group he already has.

“I have always said that I am satisfied with what I have. The squad is doing very well and that’s what I’m focused on. The issue of the market is handled by Deco and it has been discussed, yes. We’ll see what happens, but I’m focused on the players I have, who are doing very well.”

Flick has certainly gotten the best of this squad, but it’s also a fact that Barça still need improvement in a few areas. Left wing and backup striker are two of those areas, and Rashford can temporarily cover both. He can’t be looked at as a permanent solution given his lack of production and off the field concerns, but a six-month loan for a talented player hungry to prove his doubters wrong could be good for Barça.

Time will tell.
