Barcelona’s messy and unending saga regarding the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for the second half of the season continues to cause headaches and uncertainty amongst fans, players and coaches, and one of the club’s most important voices spoke about the issue on Friday.

Manager Hansi Flick met the press ahead of Saturday’s Copa del Rey debut, but much of the questions were about the registration situation. Flick was his usual calm self, remaining confident in the club’s ability to solve the issue and looking forward to the game instead of worrying about things that are out of his control.

“I don’t want to talk too much about this because it’s not my job. My job is to prepare for the game. I was in contact with the president at Christmas and today as well. I have the club’s confidence that they have done their job, as I have done mine.

“It’s normal. To be honest, I wasn’t happy with the situation either. The players aren’t happy either, but we have to accept that we are professionals. I’m optimistic, but we have to wait for the decision.

“When I speak with the president it is private and will remain private.”

Flick will always say the right thing and it is good to have a leader who remains calm and focused on the task at hand, but he should never be put in this situation in the first place. It is certainly a far cry from what he was used to in Germany, but that’s Barcelona and La Liga for you.

Barça remain hopeful they can find a way to get the job done, but this saga should have never started in the first place. Let’s see if there’s a happy ending after all.
