‘We’re not thinking about his departure’- Hansi Flick talks Eric García to Girona
The center-back could leave in January
Even though every possible headline around Barcelona right now is about the registration situation, another story worth monitoring is the transfer status of Eric García, who is a serious target of Girona and could re-join the club on a permanent deal this month.
Eric had a fantastic season on loan at Girona last year and hasn’t had many minutes under Hansi Flick in the last couple of months, and Girona could offer as much as €10 million to close the deal which is certainly appealing given Barça’s financial situation.
Manager Hansi Flick was asked about the rumors in a press conference on Friday, and the coach doesn’t seem too interested in letting one of his players go right now.
“I don’t think so, but I don’t know what will happen. He is a very good player. He is very interesting, intelligent, and very professional. We are not thinking about his departure at the moment.”
Flick’s stance makes a lot of sense given Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor are currently not part of his squad and losing another player would be a massive hit to the squad depth going into a busy stretch, and you never know if a sudden injury crisis will make Eric an important piece of the team again as he was earlier this season.
