Hansi Flick is said to be a fan

Frenkie de Jong has put his slow start to the season behind, as he has recovered from a nasty injury and started playing a greater role for FC Barcelona.

So much so that the Dutchman could surpass Marc Casadó as the starter in midfield. Hansi Flick is said to be a big fan of De Jong, and he has always reportedly urged the management to keep him in the squad.

Now, the issue becomes his contract. It’s due to expire in 2026, and Barcelona would be very keen to renew his deal if he is a starter. Before, it was understood that De Jong was not in a hurry to renew, and the club was also not too fussed.

Today, there’s talk of a “start from scratch” approach and both parties could be looking at a potential new deal. The biggest problem is De Jong’s salary, which the Catalans consider too high, but the player himself feels that he should be paid fairly.
