Good stuff from the youngster

Marc Casado has been talking about life at Barcelona after enjoying a stellar breakthrough season with the Catalan giants.

The 21-year-old has made 35 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona but has found himself back on the bench recently following Frenkie de Jong’s return to form and fitness.

Casado has been asked about his battle with the Dutchman for a starting spot and came up with an admirable response.

“In the end, Frenkie is a great player. He’s at an incredible level and is performing incredibly well. I’m calm, I trust in myself and I’m waiting for the opportunity to give it my all again and hopefully I can make it into the starting eleven again,” he told Beteve.

“Frenkie and I get along really well, he’s a great person and an incredible professional. At La Masia, they teach you how to play at this club. From a very young age, all the teams play the same way, and we create the idea that this club has.

“Above all, the values they also teach us: to have this healthy competition with people in your position… A thousand things you see every day and are reflected in all the players at La Masia.”

Casado clearly has a very level-headed approach to life but is still hoping to land trophies this season as Barca continue to battle on all fronts.

“I knew this was an important year for me. It was this step up to the first team, and I think it’s thanks to the confidence the manager and all my teammates have shown in me that I’ve been able to show my level,” he added.

“These are very good numbers, but what I hope is to round them off with titles at the end of the season. I’m a young player and like any player you go through ups and downs during the season. I’ve been at the top for a season or not even that long yet.”

Barcelona continue their title challenge on Sunday against Atletico, although Casado may have to be content with a place on the bench once again.
