The Brazilian has been in amazing form all season long

Barcelona look to finish the job against Benfica on Tuesday and advance to the Champions League quarterfinals, and there’s no doubt that Raphinha is a big part of their hopes of moving on and competing in Europe this season.

The winger has been in amazing form since the start of the campaign and has been excellent in all competitions, but he has saved his best performances for Champions League nights, scoring 9 goals in 9 matches so far and turning into one of the best players in the world as soon as that iconic anthem is played.

The Brazilian will be a real contender for the Ballon d’Or if Barça go on to win the Champions League and maybe add the La Liga and/or the Copa del Rey to their trophy cabinet this season, and Hansi Flick was asked about Raphinha’s chances of winning the award in a press conference on Monday.

“Of course, if he does well this season he could have a chance. He always helps us a lot, and if you see the goals he’s scored it shows you how hungry he is. You can see that, it’s good to see how focused he is. I’m happy with his level.”

If Raphinha has any chance to win the Ballon d’Or this season, you can credit a large part of that to Hansi Flick. The German coach’s arrival has transformed Raphinha by giving him more freedom and responsibility in his system, and Raphinha has grown in confidence and unlocked a whole new level of his game.

Time and trophies will tell if he can win the most prestigious individual award in the game, but you simply cannot draw up a shortlist right now without Raphinha’s name on it.
