Kounde explains why he loves Flick’s high line at Barca

The system has been criticised this season
Jules Kounde has been talking about life at Barcelona under Hansi Flick and why he’s a big fan of the German’s famous high line.
The Barcelona defence has been in the spotlight this season because of Flick’s infamous tactic, but Kounde says it’s not too different from last season under Xavi.
“Yes, I like it, I like it. It’s true that it’s very different from many coaches because it’s very advanced and we play offside, but I’ve always had coaches who liked to press; so for me it’s been easier to get used to this style,” he explained.
“With Xavi, we also played with a high line. Maybe not as much, but we wanted to press, to be the center of attention, to have the position. It’s a style I like.”
Kounde’s partnership with Lamine Yamal down the right flank has also been a feature of the team’s play and the Frenchman says the pair have a great relationship on and off the pitch.
“I think we help each other; we both get along really well on and off the pitch. It’s a pleasure to play with him. I won’t teach him how to attack, but I try to talk to him on the pitch to help him; how to position himself more defensively, because that’s also my job,” he added.
“In the end, I’m a defender, and what I want is for the team to function well defensively, too. But he’s a guy who works very well for the team, who makes the effort. So I’m very happy, very happy to play with him.”
Barcelona’s high line will be tested once again on Sunday against Atletico, with Flick’s men out for revenge after being beaten by Diego Simeone’s side earlier in the season in La Liga.
