Rafa Yuste is grateful for the coach’s job this season

Barcelona sporting vice president Rafa Yuste spoke at an event on Thursday and was asked about the current affairs of the first team after securing a spot in the Champions League semi-finals.

The Catalans are still alive in the hunt for a third men’s Treble in club history, thanks in large part to the brilliant job done by Hansi Flick in his first season in charge. Yuste was asked about the coach and was full of praise not only for Flick’s results but his ability to connect with the players and the entire club on a personal level.

“I consider Hansi a father figure to the younger players, and I must say many of them are in the first team thanks to Xavi believing in very young players. But the job Hansi has done, I would say really is unthinkable for many people, and we thank him so much for his ability to adapt to the club, the city and most importantly this squad of so many youngsters. They are kids who needed his experience and his messaging. He’s doing so well.”

Yuste was also asked about the European semi-final against Inter Milan and about Barça’s chances to win the Treble, and he used the same mantra from Flick: take it step by step, day by day.

“Barça do have the possibility to win the Treble, but always with humility and listening to what Hansi says about going step by step so we can achieve this dream that so many have. But in a moment like this we need to keep our feet on the ground and know that we haven’t won anything yet.

“I have so much respect [for Inter]. A very difficult rival and experienced in the Champions League. We have to give everything to try to reach the final. Being one of the top four teams in Europe after six years means it’s going to be very difficult, but we the support we have and the way I see Hansi and his staff, we are all very hungry.”
