Atletico Madrid have reportedly denied receiving a €100 million offer from Barcelona for Argentina international Julian Alvarez.

It’s been widely reported that Barcelona have made an opening bid for Alvarez just days after agreeing a fee with Newcastle for Anthony Gordon.

Atletico have responded to the news and insist nothing is going on. “Just another lie,” a club source told Mundo Deportivo. The source added than if an offer were to arrive: “we won’t accept it, because Julián is not for sale.”

This follows on from another strong response from Atletico yesterday. The club accused Barcelona of “behaving like a small-team in this whole Julián affair” amid continued speculation about a potential transfer.

Atletico’s words seem unlikely to deter Barcelona. Reporter Veronica Brunati reports that Barcelona are now pondering increasing their offer for Alvarez to €135 million with variables.

Brunati adds that Barcelona and Alvarez are eager for the transfer to be agreed before the start of the World Cup.
