‘We tease each other a lot’ – Kylian Mbappe opens up on his relationship with Barcelona’s Jules Kounde
Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he enjoys plenty of banter with France team-mate Jules Kounde due to the rivalry between their two club sides.
The two players are currently with Les Bleus for World Cup 2026 and Mbappe admits that Kounde has the upper hand when it comes to bragging rights recently due to Barcelona’s success and Madrid’s lack of trophies.
“Do I see him as a Barcelona player since I’ve been at Real Madrid? Yeah, totally!” he told L’Equipe.
“We tease each other a lot more than when I was in Paris. Okay, he’s had the last word a bit more lately because we’re not winning, but we’ve always been able to separate things when it comes to the national team.
“We get along well. He’s a guy I talk to about a lot of things, especially politics.”
Kounde famously scored a brilliant winner against Real Madrid to seal the Copa del Rey in 2025 and has also picked up La Liga titles in the last two seasons.
Mbappe, meanwhile, is yet to win a major trophy since joining Madrid from PSG in 2024.
