‘You say I’m not at my best, so you shouldn’t expect anything’ – Lamine Yamal speaks out ahead of Spain vs France
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal faced the press ahead of Spain’s World Cup 2026 semi-final against France and made it clear he’s relishing the prospect of going up against Kylian Mbappe and Co.
Much has been made of Yamal’s form at the tournament, following his return from injury, but he’s not worried about what his critics are saying.
“I don’t feel pressure. You say I’m not at my best, so you shouldn’t expect anything from me. But I’m confident that tomorrow will go well,” he told reporters.
“I’m not worried about goals, but it’s always special to score in games like this. I accept the challenge, that’s why I came.
“It’s the most important game I’m going to play. We’re all very excited, especially me. Obviously, I see myself as world champion. We all see ourselves like we did in 2010. Why not?”
Yamal was also asked about his previous comments after the win over Belgium where he said France “should be afraid” of Spain and explained his thinking.
“It hasn’t been misinterpreted. Obviously, I’m not afraid of France. We are the European champions and we don’t fear any match. They’re just taking it as a matter of football, that’s all,” he explained.
Spain and France face off in Dallas with the winners of the tie going on to play either Argentina or England in the final on Sunday.
