Barcelona to appeal Gerard Piqué suspension

Gerard Piqué is set to miss out on important games due to his suspension, so Barcelona wants to fight for him.

The club released a statement on Wednesday in which it defends the player again, and says it will appeal the decision of banning the star center-back for four games due to a red card in the Spanish Supercup.

FC Barcelona will appeal to the Appeals Committee against the four match ban handed to Gerard Piqué for his red card in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Athletic on Monday. The Club has a period of ten days to present their appeal.

In the appeal, the player, just as he has repeated on various occasions, will point out that he did not address the referee’s assistant in the terms recorded in referee Velasco Carballo’s match report.

Once again, Barça needs to come up with another argument. There is a clear shot of Piqué saying the words to the linesman, and while that might be something every player does in every game, it got caught this time and the suspension has been handed out. Then again, there's no other thing the club can't say really, so let's hope that the Appeals Committee is cooler than the LFP.
