Javier Mascherano confides in comeback

Javier Mascherano sees no reason why FC Barcelona should thrown in the towel against Athletic. / MIGUEL RUIZ - FCB
The squad is convinced they can turn it around in the second leg at the Camp Nou on Monday

"Yes, we lost, but nothing has been decided. We've won many games by a lot of goals. It will be difficult because it is a difficult opponent, but we will give everything in Barcelona," declared defender Javier Mascherano moments after his team's 4–0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés. "We aren't dead yet. We are capable of a comeback," he said

Mascherano said the defeat iwas the result of just a few "specific circumstances, because Athletic had three or four chances and scored four goals." He knows that the only way is to "correct the mistakes and have faith in the second leg at the Camp Nou."

Here are the highlights of what some of the other players had to say:

Andrés Iniesta

"We leave [San Mamés] thinking we can turn it around. It's difficult, but not impossible. We believe we can do it."

"We made [too] many mistakes and it hurt us. When things don't go the way you want, you have to worry about improving so it does not happen again."

Dani Alves

"I don't know if the result is fair or not, but it's there. We weren't up to it and now we must try to improve and compete to the maximum to try to come back."

"We never give up, and now even less so. People trust the team, and 90 minutes at the Camp Nou is a very long time."

"I don't think I committed a penalty because during the game there were a lot of plays like that and just one of them was whistled for a penalty. But it's no excuse. Excuses are for losers."
