Official: Piqué suspeded four games due to Supercup red card

Barcelona and Gerard Piqué tried to appeal a defend themselves, but it didn't work.

The Spanish Federation announced on Wednesday that star center-back Gerard Piqué, who received a red card during the second leg of the Spanish Supercup last Monday, is suspended for four matches because of his actions towards the assistant referee. According to video and the referee's match report, the Blaugrana used abusive language towards a match official.

The verdict of the Judge of Competition, in application of article 94 of the RFEF’s Disciplinary Code, was announced on Wednesday morning and it is not good news for Gerard Piqué. The central defender has been suspended for four games following his red card in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

FC Barcelona presented its defence on Tuesday, which included the allegation that the player did not address the linesman in the manner described in the report issued by match referee Velasco Carballo after the game.

Both the club and the player appealed that he didn't do what the images and the reports clearly show, an argument that obviously wasn't enough. However, the punishment could have been of 12 games, so getting the minimum is not actually the baddest news.

The suspension means Piqué will miss the La Liga games against Athletic Bilbao, Málaga, Atlético Madrid and Levante.
