The 1–1 final score in Wedensday's Champions League opener vastly understates Barça's superiority at the Stadio Olimpico

Here’s a quick look at some of the most interesting statistics from FC Barcelona’s 1–1 draw with AS Roma in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League opener at the Stadio Olimpico.

Barça won the battle for possession at a 72% clip, the highest in any game of the tournament so far.

The team completed 666 passes, more than tripling Roma's 189.

Only Paris Saint-Germain's 804 passes were better than Barça's in match day one of this year's UEFA Champions League group stage.

Barça haven't lost a Champions League opener since 1997, when they fell at Newcastle.

Barça's last draw in a UCL opener came in a 2–2 draw with AC Milan at Camp Nou back in 2011.

Lionel Messi made his 100th UCL appearance. He's scored 77 goals over that span.

Striker Luis Suárez played his 50th game for Barça and scored his 28th goal with the Club. He's the only player to start all of Barça's official games so far this season, playing every minute in the process.

Defender Gerard Piqué had a game-high 14 recovered balls versus AS Roma.

Piqué also led the game in passing with 107 completed in 111 attempts.
