FC Barcelona News; 13 September 2015: Barça Extends 100% Record With Win Over Atletico

Luis Enrique: Barça's win 'huge' | FC Barcelona

Satisfied with the play of his squad, FC Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique Martinez talked about the comeback win over Atlético de Madrid at his post-game press conference. "I liked our play throughout the game," he said after the victory, praising his team's ability to come back and win against a rival like Diego Simeone's Atlético. "We both wanted to win, but we were very good from the start, very consistent and very focused. We dominated both phases of the game and turned the tables when things looked grim."
Lionel Messi came off the bench in the second half and scored less than a quarter-hour from time to hand FC Barcelona a 2–1 comeback victory over Atlético Madrid on Saturday night at the Vicente Calderón Stadium in Madrid, Spain. Fernando Torres’ icebreaker after 52 minutes had briefly given Atlético the lead before Neymar evened things right back up for the Catalans three minutes later. The triumph gives Barça their third win of the season in three tries. Atlético were defeated for the first time this season after opening the campaign with a pair of wins.
Sergi Roberto spoke to the media after playing a great match at the Vicente Calderón and didn't spare any praise for Leo Messi, author of the winning goal. "There is nobody like Leo. He's a father again, he could not train with us, but today he decided the game. We are proud to have him on the team," said Roberto, stressing Messi's importance in the triumph. "The team played very well the whole match and Leo was decisive when he came in."
FC Barcelona B fell to a 1-3 defeat against Hospitalet on Saturday at the Miniestadi, where the home side dominated possession but paid the ultimate price for not taking their chances. Eager to get their first win of the season, Barça showed great effort in the first half but their lack of precision in the final third hindered their momentum and went into the half-time break a goal down.
The Barça first team player Thomas Vermaelen has a calf problema in his left leg and his recovery will dictate his presence in the coming training sessions. The Belgian defender suffered the injury in the first half of Saturday’s game in the Vicente Calderón against Atlético Madrid. Vermaelen was replaced in the 27th minute of the game by Jérémy Mathieu.
Roma‘s Wojciech Szczesny was bullish ahead of the Giallorossi’s Champions League clash against Barcelona on Wednesday, claiming they did not fear the reigning European champions. "We have already demonstrated against Juventus the confidence to go head-to-head with the best teams in Europe."
AS Roma can now turn their thoughts to the Champions League. The Italians face FC Barcelona on Wednesday in the blaugranes’ first encounter of the group stages in this season’s competition. On Saturday Rudi Garcia’s recorded a 2-0 win over Frosinone in Serie A thanks to goals from former blaugrana Iago Falqué and Juan Manuel Iturbe. Roma now have seven points from their opening three matches in the league and are currently joint top of Serie A with the weekend’s fixtures still to be completed.
