FC Barcelona B fell to a 1-3 defeat against Hospitalet on Saturday at the Miniestadi, where the home side dominated possession but paid the ultimate price for not taking their chances.
Eager to get their first win of the season, Barça showed great effort in the first half but their lack of precision in the final third hindered their momentum and went into the half-time break a goal down.
Adrià Ortolá made two important stops in the first 45 minutes, first to deny Rubial and then David López. The Barça keeper, however, could do little to stop the opening goal as a near-post corner from Ton Alcover found Rubial who put the visitors ahead on 21 minutes.
The goal seemed to give Gerard Lopez’s men a push as Dongou, just two minutes later, attempted a killer pass in the six-yard box but was swept away by the Hospitalet defence. The Cameroonian then had a goal dubiously disallowed moments after.
Pushing for a leveller
Barça signalled their intentions early in the second half with two attaching changes as Enguene and Cámara were introduced at the break. The latter had the best chance of the match for the home side but was unable to beat Aulestia from close range, while Gumbau attempted an audacious effort from inside his own half which sailed just over on 68 minutes.
Just a minute later, Barça were punished for some defensive sloppiness as Iván Guzmán seized on a poor back pass to make it 0-2 to Hospitalet.
Dongou reduced the deficit in the final minute of the game but any hopes of a sensational comeback were short-lived as, almost immediately after, David Bigas restored Hospitalet’s two-goal margin to seal all three points for his side.
