Official: Vermaelen out indefinitely with calf injury

Thomas Vermaelen left Saturday's game against Atlético Madrid still in the first half after he suffered another injury. And it turns out the Barcelona center-back will be out for quite a while.

Vermaelen sustained a right calf injury, the club announced shortly after the game. This is the exact same injury goalkeeper Claudio Bravo suffered a few days ago, which leads us to believe that the Belgian defender will miss up to three weeks to recover from the issue.

After an entire season battling a consistent groin injury that required surgery, Vermaelen seemed to have finally put his dark past behind. He started on four consectuive games for Barça and the Belgium national team over the past month, and his high level of performances gave plenty of excitement about his potential season.

But now, he's injured again. It's nothing too serious, but it's impossible not to remember how many times this has happened with him over the years with Arsenal and the national squad. Hopefully this is just a minor setback, and the injury bug hits him only once.
