Rival Watch: Wins for Leverkusen, BATE and Rom
Barça's German opponents on Tuesday in the Champions League win away from home with victories also for their other rivals in Group E
Bayer Leverkusen, Barça’s next opponents in the Champions League on Tuesday at Camp Nou, recorded a much needed win in the Bundesliga this Saturday away at Werder Bremen. There were also wins for the blaugranes other opponents in Group E of this season’s competition, BATE Borisov beating Dinamo Minsk on Friday and Serie A side AS Roma recording a comfortable victory over Carpi on Saturday.
German side Bayer Leverkusen are up to fifth place in the Bundesliga thanks to their second away win of the season in the league. Goals from Mehmedi, Brandt and Kampl handed Roger Schmidt’s side a valuable victory over 3-0 win over Werder Bremen. BATE Borisov had to come from behind to beat Dinamo Minsk to stay on course for their tenth straight Belarusian title. After going a goal down with less than 20 minutes to go, strikes from Stasevich and Signevich were enough for a 2-1 away win. BATE now lead Minsk by 12 points in the table with just five games of the season remaining.
Finally, Roma strolled to a 5-1 win over Carpi thanks to goals from Manolas, Pjanic, Gervinho, Salah and Digne. However, there was a price to pay with former blaugrana Seydou Keita, Edin Dzeko and veteran Francesco Totti all picking up injuries. Rudi Garcia’s team are in third place in Serie A with Sunday’s fixtures in Italy still to be played.
