The German coach and striker Javier Hernández both have faith in the team’s ‘strong points’ to get a result at Camp Nou

Final training session at Camp Nou

After the press conference, Bayer trained at Camp Nou for the final time before the game on Tuesday. Coach Roger Schmidt has one major doubt for the clash with Barça, Roberto Hilbert, who according to the Leverkusen boss has a chance of making it into the squad and even the starting 11.

“Playing against Barça is the most difficult game there is but we will do everything to put in a good performance. We have to believe in our strong points.” That was the message from Bayer Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt in the press conference ahead of his side’s meeting with the blaugranes on Tuesday at 8.45pm CET. For the German coach the keys against FC Barcelona are “keeping it tight and determination going forward, if we can score we have a chance of getting something out of the game.”

With regards to the last meeting between the two sides at Camp Nou in which Pep Guardiola’s team inflicted a 7-1 defeat on the Bundesliga outfit, Schmidt was at pains to point out that he was not the coach that day and that now that is all “history.” He added: “The key is to not take too much notice of these things and just focus on the 90 minutes. Right now there is no comparison because that it is two different points with two sets of different players.”

In the press conference former Manchester United striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández also made an appearance. This is what he had to say:

“We come to Barcelona with a lot of optimism. We want to play well and get to the next phase.”

“There is no better motivation than playing against the holders at a ground like this one. Perfection doesn’t exist but we have to look for it. We need to put in a complete performance to get something out of the game in Barcelona.”

“Everybody thinks that if Messi doesn’t play then that goes in favour of the opponents, but the truth is that we are playing against Barça. We have to give 100% knowing what their style is and the great players that they have.”
