Thomas Vermaelen leaves game vs Atlético Madrid with injury
The injury bug hit Barcelona again, but this time the target wasn't too surprising.
During the La Liga match between the Blaugrana and Atlético Madrid, Belgian center-back Thomas Vermaelen left the game with what appears to be a right hamstring injury. It was a non-contact contusion that happened in a simple play when the defender attempted a sprint on a corner-kick only 25 minutes into the first half. A visibly upset Vermaelen asked for doctor attention, and immediately left the match, being substituted by Jérémy Mathieu.
Vermaelen was on an important streak of games played followed an entire season plagued by injuries in his first year with the Catalan giants. He started the first two league matches for his club and played 180 minutes for the Belgium national team during the international break, and it certainly seemed like he had left his dark days behind. Turns out he hasn't.
This is the fourth Barça defender hit with injuries. Claudio Bravo, Dani Alves and Douglas Pereira are also out with physical problems.
