Luis Enrique “One Step Away” From Becoming Chelsea Manager - Report

Could he make a dramatic return to the Camp Nou in the UCL?

Former FC Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is “one step away” from replacing Antonio Conte as Chelsea boss, according to Diario SPORT.

Matt Law wrote in The Telegraph that Luis Enrique, along with Juliano Belletti, was one of the favorites to replace Conte - but not now, rather next summer.

There were rumors that after Chelsea’s humiliation at the hands of Watford, by the score of 4-1, the Blues would sack Conte.

But Simon Stone of the BBC wrote: “On Monday afternoon, I was told very forcibly that stories Antonio Conte would lose his job if Chelsea lost at Watford last night were nonsense.”

However, Stone goes on to say: “Yet such is the knee-jerk nature of decisions owner Roman Abramovich is capable of making that it cannot be ruled out what was certain 24 hours ago is now hanging by the slenderest of threads.”

SPORT claims that Chelsea “could take the decision to sack Conte in a matter of hours and Luis Enrique, with a strong resume backing him, is first on Abramovich’s list.”

Of course we have seen many “matter of hours” claims proven wrong before, so treat this rumor carefully. But it would be quite dramatic for Barça’s coach from last year to face them in the UEFA Champions League this year.
