WATCH: “The Mess at Cornellà”, Close-up Footage From Espanyol-Barcelona

Once again from El Dia Despuês

The match between FC Barcelona and Espanyol was a right mess. Played in the pouring rain, the 1-1 draw saw more than its fair share of controversial incidents.

The continuing saga between Gerard Piqué and Espanyol took another twist as he dismissively referred to them as “Espanyol from Cornellà,” which annoyed the club enough to report him to the anti-violence committee. After scoring the equalizer, he made a “shut up” gesture towards the fans. The fans once again brought back their horrible chants directed at Piqué’s family.

There was also a strong foul on him from Gerard Moreno which seemingly injured the defender.

And finally, there was a very rash foul from Sergio García on Samuel Umtiti. This video, from the show El Dia Después, shows all these incidents:

One key thing left out though, is the racist abuse allegedly perpetrated by García towards Umtiti. García did not deny the allegations and instead posted a quasi-apology on his Instagram.

Perhaps El Dia Después simply was unable to pick up this incident in any of the footage.
