Valverde: Everything was against Barcelona at Espanyol
Ernesto Valverde was understandably proud of his team after they fought back from a goal down against Espanyol to draw 1-1 on Sunday.
Gerard Pique’s late header preserved Barcelona’s unbeaten La Liga record in a tough game played in extremely wet conditions.
Espanyol had gone ahead through Gerard Moreno but Barca showed their fighting spirit once again to salvage a point.
Speaking after the game Valverde praised his team particularly for adapting their style of play in such difficult conditions.
“We fought well and had to change our way of playing because of the circumstances. That’s why we value the draw very much, because everything was going against us,” he said.
”We thought the pitch would be ok, but at halftime we saw that it could become dangerous.
“Therefore, we had to try long balls and more strategic plays, but in the end, Piqué’s goal arrived.”

It may seen like two points dropped but given the conditions, the fact Barca went behind and that it was a derby game, Valverde is right that it’s a good result.
