Barca’s Arthur move collapses -report

Barcelona’s pursuit of Gremio midfielder Arthur has taken up headlines for some months now but the latest reports suggests a move is still not close.

Earlier today we brought you news that Arthur said he was “nervous” about his impending move to Barcelona and that negotiations were continuing.

However, there’s been another update on the transfer saga, this time from Marca (so you know) who reckon that talks between the two clubs have now collapsed.

Apparently Gremio officials have been in Barcelona to finalise the deal but have been unable to agree on a number of factors and may well now return to Brazil.

One particular sticking point seems to be the issue of European Union spots in the squad. Apparently there is no guarantee there will be an available spot in January even though Philippe Coutinho is expected to gain a Portuguese passport.

The report adds that other clubs, including Inter, could now try and make a move for Arthur.

It’s difficult to know what to make of this report. It seems pretty clear that Arthur wants a move to Barcelona and the club want the midfielder.

However, the lack of non-EU spots (currently taken up by Coutinho, Yerry Mina and Paulinho) is clearly an issue and one Barcelona need to find a solution to if they are to land their man.
