Injured Messi misses Italy but hopes to be back against Spain
Lionel Messi has been left out of the Argentina squad for their friendly with Italy at the Etihad Stadium on Friday night.
Reports emerged overnight that the Barcelona star had picked up an adductor problem and was a doubt for the game and it seems like Jorge Sampaoli refused to risk him.
Messi has also spoken about his problem and said that he’s had the issue for a while but is hoping to play against Spain on Tuesday.
“I have been experiencing problems with my hamstring for some time now. We decided to clean everything in the face of what is coming. I am optimistic to play against Spain on Tuesday,” he said.

While it’s good to see Messi not being risked against Italy it’s still a little worrying to hear that he’s carrying an injury and considering playing against Spain.
Obviously we don’t know the severity of the problem but let’s hope he gets the rest he needs and comes back to Barcelona in good health.
