Valverde talks Iniesta, Andre Gomes & Chelsea
Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has faced the press ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Chelsea at the Camp Nou.
Valverde said he couldn’t confirm if Andres Iniesta would be fit enough to play although he did say Sergi Roberto was fit after he missed training this week.
Here are the best bits:
Valverde on Iniesta
He’s done well in training but we can’t say if he’ll play tomorrow not. It’s a huge game but you have to be 100 per cent fit to play so it depends on what happens in training later.
Tomorrow is a must-win situation so yes you need to take risks, but not too excessive because you don’t want to compromise the safety of the player.
Valverde on Andre Gomes
It’s nothing new in football, it happens all the time. It’s an act of bravery for Andre Gomes to come out and show he has a weakness and that he is suffering at the moment. Whether he plays tomorrow or not is down to me, but he has a lot of qualities and maybe we’ll get to see them tomorrow. It’s down to the player to go out there, work hard, he has to win over the fans but also the fans need to show the support for the team.
Valverde on Chelsea
In the first leg we saw the virtues of Chelsea, we don’t know if they will be more attacking, a lot will depend on how the game goes. The 0-0 is in our favour but it’s unilkely it will stay like that. Chelsea are a team who can score at any time.
Tomorrow we have to be wary of the threats of Chelsea, they are a threat from set-pieces and on the counter-attack and we have to be careful about that
Valverde on Willian
Willian is scoring freely. He’s a player we have to take into account because he has that ability to shoot. He is probably in his best form of the season
