Barcelona Meet With Clément Lenglet’s Agents

The Sevilla player could be edging closer to a move

FC Barcelona have met with Clément Lenglet’s agents to discuss a potential move from Sevilla to Catalonia, per Diario SPORT. The defender has caught the eye of several big clubs as he’s come up with big performances for the Sevillistas this season.

SPORT claims that the FC Barcelona technical staff, along with coach Ernesto Valvere, have agreed that he would be the ideal player to strengthen the defense for next season. But now, they claim that Barça have gone a step further and have actually met with the player’s representatives.

With Thomas Vermaelen and Gerard Piqué aged 32 and 31, respectively, Samuel Umtiti’s future in some degree of uncertainty, and Yerry Mina still adapting, Barça want to find a central defender who can be of service for a long time. Lenglet is only 22 but he is seen as someone who can contribute right away. Barça have tended to carry two right-footed central defenders and two left-footed central defenders for a while now, and with Lenglet being left-footed, he could be the replacement for Vermaelen or Umtiti.

The meeting reportedly went well, and fears that he would not get enough playing time were assuaged. Personal terms may not have been agreed yet, and a deal on his sale price is still not on the table, but SPORT says Barça feel confident it’s all on the right track.

The Frenchman is due to face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.
