Pique confirms Spain retirement

The defender has already told Luis Enrique

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique confirmed on Saturday he has no intention of playing for Spain again, and he has already informed coach Luis Enrique of his decision.

Pique had previously revealed he’d quit the international scene after the 2018 World Cup, and it seems he’s staying true to his word.

“I spoke to Luis Enrique a few days ago. He called me and I told him the decision was taken a long time ago and that I had thought about it carefully,” he said.

“It was a beautiful time with the national team in which I had the chance to win the World Cup and the European Championship. Now I want to focus on Barca.

“I have a few years left here and I’m going to enjoy them a lot.”

The defender claimed over 100 caps for Spain and won the World Cup and the European Championship during his time with La Roja.
