Lucho’s Spain era begins with win over England
Just one Barcelona player in the starting XI
Luis Enrique oversaw a 2-1 win over England in his first game in charge of Spain at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
The Three Lions went ahead through Marcus Rashford, but Saul Niguez hit back almost immediately to leve it up.
Rodrigo Moreno took advantage of some slack defending to put Spain ahead and they held out for victory, although England did see a late equaliser controversially ruled out.
It’s the perfect start for Enrique who named just one Barcelona player, Sergio Busquets, in his starting XI.
Sergio Roberto came on as a substitute in the second half, he replaced Thiago with 10 minutes of normal time remaining in his first Spain appearance since 2016.
Spain are in action again on Tuesday when they take on World Cup finalists Croatia in their second UEFA Nations League clash at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero.
