Ter Stegen to start for Germany against Peru
The goalkeeper gets a rare start for his country
Germany boss Joachim Low has confirmed Marc-Andre ter Stegen will start for Die Mannschaft in Sunday’s international friendly against Peru.
Ter Stegen is very much back-up to Manuel Neuer on the international scene, but he will get a rare chance to impress at Hoffenheim’s Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
Low confirmed the news in his pre-match press conference with Ter Stegen set to make his first appearance for the national team since June when he featured in a friendly against Saudi Arabia.
Ter Stegen has been in brilliant form over the last few seasons and was unlucky not to be Germany’s first choice at the World Cup.
Neuer missed most of the season through injury, but Low put him straight back into the team. However, Germany had a poor tournament in Russia, and Neuer was caught out badly in their defeat against South Korea.
Ter Stegen admitted he was disappointed not to be a starter in Russia but will now get the opportunity to show Germany once again what he can do.
