Gerard Piqué Told Barcelona Fans to Stop Abusing Sergio Ramos

Gerard Piqué defended Sergio Ramos when the Real Madrid captain was receiving abuse from Barcelona ultras during el clásico. The fans at the Camp Nou were chanting, “Sergio Ramos, son of a bitch” at the defender. Piqué was pictured waving his finger in a “no” gesture, trying to get them to stop.

Piqué and Ramos, despite being rivals for a long time at club level, were teammates in the Spanish national team for years as well. Piqué himself has been the subject of abuse from different fans. The Catalan defender has even been insulted by Spain fans during international matches.

Ramos, who has captained Spain recently, told reporters last year that he asked Spain fans not to whistle or insult Piqué or any one of his teammates. The one difference is that while Ramos did it in the context of defending a teammate, Piqué did it in the context of defending a rival.

In any case, both players have drawn plaudits for their commitment to fair play in those cases.
