De Ligt deal almost done, but De Jong looking unlikely - report
Barcelona could be getting one, but not both, of the young Dutch stars
Mundo Deportivo’s Francesc Aguilar has claimed that a source connected to Ajax has assured him that the deal for Matthijs de Ligt to join Barcelona is very close to done. But, Aguilar writes that the source is a lot more “pessimistic” about Barcelona landing his teammate, Frenkie de Jong.
The Ajax defender has been the subject of intense speculation as many clubs have been vying to sign him up, with Barça reportedly in “pole position.” According to the report, De Ligt has agreed to personal terms with Barça, and it is only a matter of signing a contract for his transfer, but even for that case, a verbal agreement with Ajax already exists.
However, when it comes to De Jong, the report states that he is not really a priority for Barça, who prefer getting Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot. Rabiot seems very unlikely to renew his contract and could be available for a free transfer next summer.
