Garcia Pimienta: Success for me is Alena in the first team
Player development more important than winning for Barca B
Barcelona B coach Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta has given a pretty interesting interview to Barca TV where he’s talked about developing the club’s young stars.
The 44-year-old spoke about how producing players for the first team is more important than the team winning games and gaining promotion.
“I want to win everything, but I also see how these things work. For me, success is having seen Carles Alena with a first team number,” he said.
“The main objective for the season is the development of players over promotion. If this season we can promote 2-3 players to the first team, we’ve done the job perfectly.
“We will see the B players progress more. I prefer to demand the best on a daily basis, because we’re up against complicated rivals. Their improvement depends on me, but also themselves.”

While Alena has already been promoted to the team this season, we’ve also seen Juan Miranda, Chumi and Riqui Puig earning first-team minutes. They are likely to get more chances in January when the Copa del Rey swings around again.
