Gerard Piqué signs Tito Vilanova’s son to the team he now owns

Adrià Vilanova signs with FC Andorra

The first signing of Gerard Piqué’s reign as FC Andorra’s owner is a familiar face - Adrià Vilanova, a former La Masia player and the son of former FC Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova.

Piqué is a co-founder of the Kosmos Holding Group, which became the new owners of FC Andorra last month. Former Barcelona player Gabri García was named as coach, after having been sacked by Swiss team FC Sion. He was previously a Barcelona youth coach and an assistant for Barcelona B.

Adrià is a centerback who went up through the youth system at Barcelona B and was able to reach the B team. He eventually joined Hércules CF, and then went to Mallorca B before joining FC Andorra. Diario SPORT reports he is not the only signing, but the one most familiar to Barcelona fans.

FC Andorra play in the Primera Catalana, the highest level of Catalan football and part of the Spanish fifth tier.

Tito Vilanova coached Piqué first as an assistant to Pep Guardiola and then as head coach for one season, in which they won the league with a record-tying 100 points. His stint as manager was complicated by bouts with throat cancer, which eventually forced him to resign. Sadly, he died in 2014 at the age of 45.
