Van Dijk ‘glad’ he doesn’t have to play Messi every season
The Liverpool defender spoke about the GOAT
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk says he is glad he doesn’t play in Spain and have to face Lionel Messi every season.
The centre-back spoke about the Barcelona captain after watching him score twice in the first leg of the two sides’ Champions League semi-final at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.
”Messi is a fantastic player, that much is obvious.Even when we were attacking, it is always difficult, as you know he is in the corner waiting to attack.
”He is the best player in the world and the extra level he has shown over the years proves this. That goal shows where Messi is as a player.
”When he is at his best, there is nothing you can do to stop him. I am glad I don’t play in Spain and have to face him every season.”

The bad news for Van Dijk is that he will have to face Messi again in less than a week’s time when Barcelona make the trip to Anfield for the return leg.
