Barcelona want competition for top tier players

The pressure will be on Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets

Barcelona are reportedly planning to take a drastic step this summer and find some competition for some of their top players. Reports are coming out that Barcelona are seeing that they need not only depth, but some healthy competition, at centre-back, left-back, midfield, and center-forward.

The moves would specifically target putting that pressure on Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets. There’s certainly a feeling to this that age plays a role in these rumors. Even if Barcelona didn’t want to put pressure on these guys, their age makes planning for the future necessary.

There has to be some motivation from Barcelona to make these players feel the necessary pressure that comes with playing for the club. Just because you’ve been a starter for years doesn’t mean that can’t change, and if you don’t have a solid second option, the chance for that pressure to take place is much less.
