Barcelona will sell not buy in January - report
The club need to reduce the wage bill
Barcelona are reportedly not planning on making any signings in the January transfer window but could look to offload players.
The Catalan giants need to balance the books after another summer of spending and so won’t move for Neymar, despite all the rumors to the contrary, according to Marca.
Instead the club could look to trim the wage bill and the squad in the winter, and there are a number of players who could be considered surplus to requirements.
Ivan Rakitic, Samuel Umtiti and Arturo Vidal were all linked with moves away in the summer window and may be available if acceptable offers arrive.
The report also reckons that Carles Alena and Moussa Wague are vulnerable. Alena is having a tough time currently and has not made the squad since starting on the opening day.
Wague was promoted to the first-team this season as back-up to Nelson Semedo and is yet to feature, but if the club were to sell the 20-year-old it would leave them short of options at right-back.
The departure of Umtiti would also leave Barca with only three senior centre-backs for the rest of the campaign, but if the club are to make sales then it’s in midfield where departures look most likely.
