The Barcelona midfielder opened his account for the national team

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong opened his account for the Netherlands on Friday in their 4-2 win over Germany and was pretty delighted with his evening’s work.

The 22-year-old coolly slotted home the visitors’ equaliser on the hour to make it 1-1 and played a key role as Ronald Koeman’s side went on to claim an impressive win.

De Jong spoke afterwards about his goal and how he felt his team deserved to pick up all three points.

“I was just waiting for it. But it was a nice one. I could take the ball wonderfully. After that it was easy to score,” he said.

“We played for the win. In the first half we had difficulty creating opportunities. That worked out better in the second half. We increasingly got the feeling that we could win.”
