FIFA deny allegations of foul play over Messi The Best award win
There have been claims of voting irregularities
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi took home another award this week. The Argentine star was named Best Men’s player at the FIFA awards. The win didn’t go without controversy. After the win took place, Nicaragua captain Juan Barrera came out and said that he didn’t vote for Messi. To which FIFA had a pretty concise comeback.
“We have checked the voting documents submitted by the Nicaraguan FA and all documents are signed and confirmed with the official stamp of the Nicaraguan FA,”
“Having compared with the vote sheets submitted by the federation and the ones we have published on FIFA.com, we confirm that we have the right votes signed by the player. We are asking the Nicaraguan Football Federations to inquire on this matter.”

Barrera said he didn’t vote at all, in fact not receiving an email with instructions at all, as opposed to last year when he did vote.
“I did not vote in The Best 2019 awards,” he wrote on Twitter. “Any information about me is false.”
