There are “doubts” within the Barcelona staff about whether Neymar is the best option

FC Barcelona is having serious doubts about signing Neymar back after a protracted saga ended with the Brazilian standing by at Paris-Saint Germain last summer, according to a new report. The reason? The progress of Ansu Fati, Barcelona’s newest golden boy.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Barça could prioritize other signings instead of Neymar, a winger. Particularly, the blaugrana could be in the hunt for a new #9 that could supplant Luis Suárez.

Fati’s meteoric rise caught many by surprise, but it seems Barça is convinced the teenaged sensation will deliver on his enormous potential. They probably are not keen on blocking the young star’s progress by adding an already-established superstar like Neymar.

Another source of doubt is Neymar’s injury record. While the forward has always had struggles with physical problems, a fresh injury has made the issue become top of mind for many people.

Finally, there is a political problem, so to speak. Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu will be out of office soon, and while he cannot run for another term, he will want whoever he endorses to take over. The signing of Neymar is not necessarily the most popular with the fan base, and that could prove a risky bet given the fact that big signings are usually considered easy PR wins for the group that makes them.
