River Plate’s Gallardo emerges as possible Valverde replacement

Barcelona have reportedly made River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo their top choice to replace Ernesto Valverde if they decide to make a managerial change this season.

According to TNT Sports, Barca would be interested in taking on Gallardo if Valverde is unable to improve results and performances after a slow start.

Gallardo has apparently already spoken to club officials and has previously attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco, so say Sport.

Yet Barca may not find it easy to land Gallardo at this current time. He has a contract at River Plate until 2021, and the club have reached an important part of the season.

River Plate have reached the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores, beating Boca Juniors 2-0 in the first leg of their clash with the return fixture scheduled for October 22.
