“What is the problem” with Antoine Griezmann, asks L’Equipe
The French magazine is concerned about one of its country’s star players
The French media is worried about the adaptation of Antoine Griezmann at Barcelona. L’Equipe, one of the leading football magazines in France, has made it the subject of its latest issue, asking “what is the problem?”
The magazine says he is yet to feel comfortable at Barça and still doesn’t feel like a part of the team. The Frenchman arrived with more than a little controversy, first for reportedly agreeing to move the previous summer but backing out at the last second. And when the transfer finally went through, his former team, Atlético Madrid, publicly accused him and Barça of agreeing to the transfer outside the transfer window - something which is against the rules.
Last summer was also the time when, after purchasing Griezmann for a hefty sum, Barcelona went all in on trying to buy another attacker as well: Neymar.
The report says Griezmann knew that he’d be questioned and every move would be analyzed after leaving Atlético under dramatic circumstances for the huge spotlights at the Camp Nou. Those concerns seem to have come true, and now the media is speculating about his relationship with Lionel Messi, and whether the two will ever connect like Messi did with Neymar.
Last of all is his tactical adaptation, whether he is best deployed as a left-winger in a 4-3-3 when he found most of his success as a second forward in a central position.
The biggest thing on Griezmann’s side is that there is plenty of time for him to adapt to the team. This is still early days for his time at the Camp Nou.
